Clean Packaging Sorting Facilities
STADLER Constructed a Packaging Facility for PreZero in Austria
Colin Smith — October 2, 2025STADLER completed construction of a lightweight packaging sorting plant for PreZero in Sollenau, Austria, delivering a purpose‑built facility designed to process mixed lightweight packaging streams at commercial throughput rates. The installation integrates STADLER’s mechanical sorting infrastructure with advanced sensor‑based separation technologies to classify and recover polymer fractions, metals, and multilayer materials, and includes conveyor systems, ballistic and air separation modules, near‑infrared and color‑sorting optics, and automated material handling to maximize material yield and purity.
The plant is presented as an operational step toward improving regional recovery rates and supporting circularity for packaging materials by producing higher‑quality recyclate for downstream reprocessors. Project components included site civil works, plant automation and control systems, commissioning and performance testing, and workforce training to support operations and maintenance; PreZero and STADLER framed the facility as part of broader efforts to scale modern recycling infrastructure and meet regulatory and market drivers for improved packaging recovery.
