School Bus Charging Systems

The Mobility House's implementation of a vehicle-to-grid charging system for Fremont Unified School District's electric bus fleet represents a significant advancement in sustainable transportation infrastructure. This initiative transforms the school buses into mobile energy storage units capable of discharging power back to the grid during peak demand periods. This is made possible through Pacific Gas & Electric's Emergency Load Reduction Program.

The Mobility House's vehicle-to-grid charging system utilizes bidirectional chargers managed by the company's ChargePilot platform, which automatically adjusts charging schedules based on utility notifications and time-of-use electricity pricing. At the same time, the system ensures buses remain operational for their primary transportation purpose.

The technology's potential extends beyond schools — similar vehicle-to-grid charging systems could prove valuable for municipal transit systems, delivery fleets, or other organizations with predictable vehicle usage patterns.
