Aircapture and 44.01 have been granted a $1 million recognition prize by the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition for their involvement in the collaborative venture known as Project Hajar.
Project Hajar successfully integrated Aircapture's transportable direct air capture units with 44.01's subsurface mineralization technology, which permanently transforms gaseous carbon dioxide into stable rock formations. A significant operational milestone was the system's achievement of full functionality within a notably short period of 17 days following deployment in the United Arab Emirates.
XPRIZE's award specifically acknowledges Project Hajar's demonstrated performance and its potential for expansion to a very large scale. Aircapture and 44.01's technological approach is characterized by a modular design, which allows for a small physical footprint and the production of extremely pure captured CO2. The business model is structured to provide carbon dioxide as an on-site utility service for industrial consumers.
