United Airlines' Sustainable Flight Fund Backs Heirloom

An investment vehicle managed by United Airlines Ventures, known as the Sustainable Flight Fund, has allocated capital to Heirloom, a company specializing in direct atmospheric carbon removal technology. This financial commitment is accompanied by an option for the fund to acquire up to 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal credits from Heirloom in the future.
Heirloom’s technical approach utilizes a process involving limestone to absorb CO2 from ambient air, a method the company asserts is both demonstrably effective and capable of being expanded to a larger operational scale.
This investment represents the Sustainable Flight Fund's first direct support for a firm commercializing direct air capture. The fund itself is a collaborative effort that pools resources from United Airlines and a consortium of other corporate entities across the travel, finance, and aerospace sectors.
