500 Global announced the launch of its Sustainable Innovation Program on August 12, 2025, as an initiative to support mission-driven founders developing commercially viable solutions to sustainability challenges in the global south. The program is anchored by the Shell Foundation, with co-funding from the UK Government’s Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform and Catalysing Agriculture by Scaling Energy Ecosystems (CASEE) programme. It brings together strategic capital, multilateral partnerships, and deep domain expertise to mobilize mission-aligned investment and drive venture development in nascent and emerging ecosystems. The initiative is rooted in the belief that sustainable, inclusive innovation led by local entrepreneurs will deliver market returns alongside measurable social and environmental impact.

The Sustainable Innovation Program launches with the Sustainable Innovation Seed Accelerator in Nairobi, an intensive eight-week course for seed-stage startups across Africa. Participating ventures receive mentorship and access to 500 Global’s network of partners, investors, and operators. Since 2010, 500 Global has invested in ecosystem development across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa, embedding localized infrastructure to address regional challenges. Having backed more than 140 companies focused on sustainability goals in 27 countries, the program seeks to scale commercially viable solutions in agriculture, energy, mobility, and the built environment to generate lasting impact at scale.
