IKEA Belgium is Testing AI Tech to Reduce Food Waste in Restaurants

As part of an initiative to identify and reduce food waste in its restaurants, IKEA Belgium is trialing AI food waste camera technology that can recognize every ingredient on a plate and record what customers leave behind.
The IKEA Anderlecht location's restaurant is testing Kikleo's Conveyor Scan, which takes the form of a smart camera stationed above a dishwashing conveyor, and data is transmitted to a live dashboard so that the kitchen team can see where food is potentially being wasted and adjust food supplies accordingly. Toby Van Dromme, Food Operational Leader at IKEA Belgium, said, "This allows the kitchen team to rethink plates and menus, fine-tune portion sizes, and ensure less food ends up in the bin."
