Dirk Merz's BATOS System Improves MicroMobility Safety
Colin Smith — May 30, 2025The BATOS® System (Battery Thermal Optimization & Security System) is a patented cooling technology developed by Dirk Merz, the founder of the premium e-bike brand Cucuma. The system was designed to optimize the thermal management of lithium-ion batteries, primarily for use in e-bike applications, by regulating battery cell temperatures with precision. According to available information, the BATOS® System has the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to approximately 15–20%, extend battery cell lifespans, and significantly decrease the risk associated with thermal overload, thereby enhancing overall battery performance and safety.
Beyond its application in new e-bike battery systems, the BATOS® System is being positioned for integration into existing battery technologies. Efforts are underway to retrofit older battery systems with the BATOS® innovation, which may contribute to prolonged battery lifecycles and a reduction in resource consumption through decreased frequency of battery replacement. The scalable and cost-effective design of the system supports its potential adoption as a new standard in battery safety and sustainability across various applications, including electric vehicles and stationary energy storage solutions. This development aligns with broader industry initiatives aimed at enhancing resource efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of battery production and disposal.
