Collaborative Bike Recycling Programs

Bike Cochrane and ROAMS Launched Dedicated Recycling Program

Bike Cochrane has launched the "Back in Gear" bike recycling initiative in collaboration with the Rivers, Oceans, and Mountains (ROAMS) program at Cochrane High School. The program invites community members to donate used bicycles, purchase refurbished models, or volunteer their time to assist with repairs and refurbishment. Scheduled operating hours for the initiative are on Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Cochrane High School, with the program running until June 20. Financial support is provided through start-up funding from the Cochrane Foundation, which underscores the project's commitment to community engagement and sustainability initiatives.

In addition to accepting whole bicycles, the initiative also welcomes donations of bicycle parts—including tubes, tires, pedals, and handlebars—at local partners such as Big Hill Cycle and Bike Bros during their regular business hours. The program builds on lessons learned from previous successful recycling initiatives in the region, with the aim of reducing waste and increasing access to affordable transportation. By fostering collaboration between local educational institutions and community organizations, the "Back in Gear" program supports the development of practical repair skills and encourages environmentally responsible practices in the local community.
