Sustainable Capsulation Investments

Capsulae Invested €5 Million to Accelerate Clean Innovation

Capsulae has committed €5 million to establish new microencapsulation pilot facilities set to open in 2026. This expansion builds on its 2022 investments in a 410 m² Central Laboratory and a 465 m² Pilot Platform in La Rochelle, as well as the ECCOCAPS joint research laboratory with the University of Le Mans and CNRS. The forthcoming workshops will house a next-generation multi-effect spray dryer operating in closed circuit to protect heat-sensitive compounds and a versatile fluidized bed unit capable of processing 50–100 kg batches of high-value ingredients.

The additional infrastructure will enable Capsulae to accelerate formulation development through advanced digital modelling, reduce environmental impact by at least 30 percent using closed-loop systems and bio-based materials, and deliver next-generation coatings for enzymes, probiotics, and vitamins. These pilot units will also support industrial-scale validation before full production, reinforcing Capsulae’s role as a strategic partner in the scale-up of functional ingredients across markets such as aquaculture, sustainable pesticides, and algae-based products. Capsulae operates as a subsidiary of Innov’ia, which specializes in tailor-made functional ingredients for the food, nutraceutical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries.
