VINCI Autoroutes x Electreon Presented the 'Charge as You Drive' Project

'Charge as You Drive,' developed by VINCI Autoroutes in partnership with Electreon, is the world’s first dynamic induction charging system implemented on a live motorway. This groundbreaking technology enables electric vehicles, including heavy-duty models, to recharge directly from the road while driving, marking a major milestone in the evolution of sustainable transportation.
By reducing the need for large onboard batteries, the system allows vehicles to become lighter, more energy-efficient, and less resource-intensive to manufacture. The environmental benefits are significant: smaller batteries require fewer raw materials, generate lower carbon emissions during production, and contribute to improved overall energy efficiency across electric fleets.
Installed along a 1.5-kilometer section of the A10 motorway, the system is currently being tested under real traffic conditions with various vehicle types. Charge as You Drive demonstrates how dynamic wireless charging can advance decarbonization and support circular economy goals within the global mobility sector.
