Climate Tourism Adaptation Programs
Brazil Launches National Programme to Protect Tourism
Adam Harrie — April 6, 2026Brazil has launched a climate tourism adaptation program to protect its tourism industry from environmental risks linked to climate change.
The initiative is part of the 'National Tourism Plan for 2024–2027' and highlights 24 targets aimed at sustainability, infrastructure resilience and environmental monitoring. It is designed to support destinations across the country, from the Amazon to the coastal regions, in adapting to increased climate-related challenges.
The program provides funding for relief and adaptation projects and encourages workforce training to broaden environmental management practices in Brazil's tourism sector.
As climate risks continue to affect global travel, programs like this demonstrate how governments are incorporating sustainable practices into tourism planning while protecting natural assets and ensuring long-term economic stability.
