UNESCO and UN Tourism have established a formal partnership to advance sustainable, inclusive, and resilient tourism through coordinated global efforts. The agreement outlines joint initiatives, including country-level programs, pilot projects, and knowledge-sharing platforms designed to promote environmentally and socially responsible tourism development.

A core focus of the collaboration is leveraging tourism as a tool for sustainability by protecting cultural and natural heritage, supporting local economies, and fostering community well-being. Emphasis is placed on reducing environmental impact while ensuring that tourism benefits are equitably distributed and aligned with local needs.

The partnership also supports the development of transnational tourism routes, such as the Silk Roads, integrating sustainable destination management with cultural preservation. In addition, expanded education and capacity-building programs aim to connect tourism with conservation and creative industries. Moreover, UNESCO will mobilize its global networks to reinforce sustainable practices and strengthen long-term resilience within destinations worldwide.
