Crisp packets from award-winning snack maker Burts are getting a sustainable upgrade, as the company unveils new packaging made from 55% recycled post-consumer plastic. Launching in June 2025 across popular 40g and 150g flavours -- including 'Mature Cheddar & Onion' and 'Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar' -- the move marks the highest level of PCR inclusion in the UK hand-cooked crisp category.

The initiative is expected to eliminate approximately 8,000 tonnes of virgin plastic annually by integrating used plastic materials into fresh packaging. A green flash on the packs will highlight this eco-friendly feature. This shift is part of Burts’ broader sustainability journey, which includes reducing plastic film thickness, optimizing packaging dimensions, and using FSC-certified shipping materials.

With ingredients sourced locally and certified by Red Tractor, Burts continues to reduce its carbon footprint while appealing to the 58% of consumers who consider environmental impact in their food choices.
