Far Eastern New Century Corporation (FENC), a global leader in sustainable polyester, has developed an innovative way to turn used PET bottles into recycled thermoplastic polyester elastomer (rTPEE) for footwear midsoles. This process gives new life to plastic waste while supporting a circular economy in the footwear industry.

The new rTPEE material offers strong elasticity, cushioning, and rebound, matching the performance of traditional materials but with a lower environmental impact. It also helps "cut carbon emissions by 10–30% compared to petroleum-based alternatives, reducing reliance on fossil fuels."

The midsoles are already in use by SALOMON for its 'Solamphibian' shoes, and other major brands are exploring the material for future collections. By transforming waste into valuable, high-performance products, FENC is showing how sustainable innovation can drive the footwear industry toward a more eco-friendly future.
