The GRO Foundation has established a significant tripartite partnership with Uganda’s National Forestry Authority and the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda to restore the Mpanga Central Forest Reserve. This also marks the organization's launch of its broader East Africa Reforestation Initiative.

The ambitious project of restoring the Mpanga Central Forest Reserve involves the planting of five million trees in 2025 and 250 million over the next 15 years. The ecological restoration will also extend to community-driven development — including clean water access, sustainable agriculture, and carbon market participation.

By leveraging the National Forestry Authority's forestry expertise, the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda's grassroots religious networks, which reach 20 million Ugandans, and GRO’s holistic development model, the initiative seeks to balance environmental recovery with economic empowerment. Initial efforts will focus on expanding nurseries, education campaigns, and income-generating conservation activities, with large-scale planting commencing in September 2025.
