Honda Adopts Recycled and Bio-Plastics on Its Motorcycle Ranges

Honda is advancing sustainability across its adventure and urban motorcycles by integrating recycled plastics and bio-based materials into key components. Rather than relying solely on virgin resins, Honda now uses recovered plastics and DURABIO, a plant-based polycarbonate, across fairings, panels, luggage boxes, and even windscreens. On the X-ADV alone, 25 bodywork parts feature recycled or bio-based materials.

Reused plastics include old car parts, such as bumpers repurposed for seat bases and luggage compartments, as well as pre-consumer manufacturing scraps for panels and covers. Notably, the CRF1100L Africa Twin windscreen is Honda’s first motorcycle application of bio-based DURABIO, reducing dependence on fossil-based resins and supporting a circular design approach.

Looking ahead, Honda is also developing chemical-sorting technology to reclaim high-purity resins from waste plastics, enabling future recycling of materials from end-of-life vehicles. By around 2029, these reclaimed plastics could be used in new motorcycles.
