Toyota makes major moves to advance its hydrogen-based transportation solutions. At the 2025 Advanced Clean Transportation Expo, the company announced plans to integrate hydrogen-powered Class 8 trucks into its logistics fleet at the North American Parts Center California (NAPCC). These trucks will replace diesel-powered vehicles and reduce supply chain emissions.

To support this transition to hydrogen-based transportation, Toyota will construct a dedicated hydrogen fueling station at the NAPCC facility that incorporates advanced liquid hydrogen technology and high-flow fueling systems to minimize refueling time. Additionally, Toyota showcased its next-generation Gen 3 fuel cell system in North America, which promises a 20% improvement in efficiency and power output compared to current modelss. The system is also designed for durability, with an expected lifespan exceeding 600,000 miles before requiring major maintenance.

To bolster hydrogen infrastructure, Toyota is collaborating with industry leaders such as Air Liquide and Iwatani to ensure reliable hydrogen sourcing and distribution. The company is also exploring partnerships in Japan, where it will focus on electrolysis technology and alternative hydrogen production methods — such as extracting hydrogen from methane byproducts in waste treatment plants and landfills.
