Hangzhou DataBeyond Technology Addresses Recycling Challenges
Kalin Ned — January 5, 2026Chinese technology firm Hangzhou DataBeyond Technology is promoting an advanced industrial sorting system designed to address a specific recycling challenge — the isolation of polypropylene and polyethylene plastic films from mixed waste streams.
Hangzhou DataBeyond Technology positions common waste sources like construction debris, agricultural plastic, and general municipal refuse as a potential resource reservoir, which it terms an 'urban oilfield,' due to the energy content of these plastics. The central technological hurdle identified is the difficulty in achieving a sufficiently pure separation of these films from visually similar contaminants, such as PVC and PET plastics, which are detrimental to subsequent processing. The company's solution utilizes artificial intelligence and high-resolution hyperspectral imaging to identify and sort the target materials with high claimed accuracy. This, in turn, will produce a purified feedstock suitable for conversion into liquid fuels through a pyrolysis process, thereby creating a circular waste-to-energy pathway.
