NEG8 Carbon Unveiled its Newest and Most Efficient DAC to Date
Colin Smith — June 19, 2025NEG8 Carbon has developed an electrostatic direct air capture (DAC) system that employs a modular, “plug and play” design to extract carbon dioxide directly from ambient air. The system, first demonstrated through Ireland’s inaugural prototype in 2022 with a capture capacity of 1.2 tonnes of CO₂ per annum, utilizes proprietary adsorber hardware. It incorporates real-time dynamic controls to optimize the capture and release processes, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining a low energy footprint. The modularity of the system is intended to facilitate scalable deployment in varied locations while ensuring cost-effective operation through reduced capital and operational expenses.
Looking toward broader market applications, NEG8 Carbon is positioning its DAC system for further scale up and global integration. A pilot project in Canada scheduled for 2025 is an early stage in the company’s strategic plan, which envisions the commercial sale of tens of thousands of adsorber units by 2040. This scale-up is aligned with a long-term objective to remove up to 100 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2050. The design’s inherent flexibility, combined with data-driven process optimization, supports its integration into projects that target both net-zero emissions and carbon negativity at an industrial level.
