Oatly has Become an Official Climate Solutions Company
Colin Smith — April 9, 2026Oatly has been recognized as the first food and beverage company to qualify as a Climate Solutions Company under the Climate Solutions Framework developed by the Exponential Roadmap Initiative in collaboration with Oxford Net Zero. The designation is based on criteria that require products to have at least 50 percent lower emissions than market alternatives and to avoid shifting environmental burdens to other areas. Oatly’s oat based beverages meet these requirements by maintaining a climate footprint significantly lower than the average for milk type products. The company’s updated sustainability plan outlines near term and long term emissions reduction targets, along with commitments related to nature, people, and nutrition.
To qualify, companies must also demonstrate that at least 90 percent of their revenue comes from climate solution products and that they are contributing to sector wide transformation. Oatly’s efforts include encouraging consumer shifts away from dairy, adopting new reporting models for societal net zero contributions, and integrating regenerative agriculture, clean energy, and food waste mitigation into its operations. The recognition positions Oatly within a broader movement to scale climate solutions across industries and highlights the role of plant based alternatives in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
