Leftover Paint Recycling Programs
PaintCare's New Program for Illinois Residents Repurposes Paint
Kanesa D — December 5, 2025PaintCare Inc. has created a new program designed to recover, repurpose, and recycle leftover paint from homeowners and businesses. The program will rely on a broad network of more than 250 drop-off locations, giving people convenient access to year-round recycling options rather than letting old cans pile up in basements, garages, or job sites.
This new system stems from Illinois’ first paint stewardship law, passed unanimously in 2023 and signed by Governor JB Pritzker. The legislation shifts responsibility to paint manufacturers, requiring them to design and operate a cost-efficient, environmentally responsible collection and recycling program. The goal is to cut down on leftover paint, encourage reuse, and ensure that any remaining waste is managed safely rather than ending up in landfills or improperly disposed of.
