Cleanfarms Debuts a New Pesticide and Fertilizer Recycling Program

Starting this year, Newfoundland farmers can recycle their empty pesticide and fertilizer containers 23 liters and under at Cleanfarms collection events. This new option helps farmers safely dispose of containers, keeping them out of landfills and preventing environmental contamination.

At the upcoming Unwanted Pesticides and Old Livestock Medications (UPLM) program collection events this October, triple-rinsed and bagged containers of 23L or less will be accepted. Farmers can pick up free collection bags from their local Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture Pest Management Specialist to prepare for the drop-off.

“Many farmers have been storing their empty containers in search of an alternative to landfilling them,” says Leah Madore, Pest Management Specialist. “Knowing they’ll now be able to return these containers to be recycled into new useful products makes us proud to be part of this exciting project.”
