SEA Airport is prioritizing sustainability in its 'C Concourse Expansion' by adopting all-electric systems that eliminate reliance on natural gas and significantly cut operational carbon emissions. Heating, hot water, and tenant cooking equipment are powered through high-efficiency air-source heat pumps, which also provide most of the building’s cooling needs. Energy efficiency is further enhanced by electrochromic glazing on the main window wall, reducing heat gain and improving comfort while lowering energy demand.

Additionally, "a rooftop photovoltaic (PV) array will supply up to 12 percent of the building’s annual electricity needs, serving as both a practical and symbolic commitment to renewable energy." Beyond energy systems, the project emphasizes sustainable materials and design. Locally sourced stone, FSC-certified wood, and biophilic features connect the facility to the Pacific Northwest environment. An outdoor public lookout with mountain views underscores the balance between ecological responsibility and passenger well-being, setting a new benchmark for sustainable airport design.
