Upcycled Ceramic Materials
TCL ECORA Repurposes Ceramic Waste Sourced from China
Laura McQuarrie — October 2, 2025TCL ECORA is a first-of-its-kind material inspired by ancient Chinese culture, and made from upcycled ceramic waste—sourced from Jingdezhen in China, also known as "the cradle of Chinese porcelain"—and plastic. "Recycled ceramic has never been used in the consumer electronics industry, so TCL ECORA is totally unique," said Shane Lee, General Manager of TCL's Design Innovation Center.
TCL ECORA was previewed at IFA 2025, where attendees got a sense of its broad range of applications and the potential to use this material for everything from TV back panels and air conditioning units to other product lines. This composite material is durable with a premium finish and well-suited for electrical appliances, and TCL plans to introduce the first products made with TCL ECORA within the next year.
