Upcycled Horticultural Materials
Teamoss is a Peat Moss Alternative Using Manufacturing Residue
Laura McQuarrie — April 23, 2026Suntory Holdings and Suntory Flowers announced Teamoss, an upcycled horticultural material made from manufacturing residues generated at Suntory Beverage and Food plants.
Peat moss has long been a go-to in horticulture for its unmatched water-retention and nutrient-holding properties, but its extraction releases stored carbon dioxide and degrades vital wetland ecosystems. The environmental cost is significant enough that regulations are already tightening, particularly across Europe, putting the future of peat moss in question. Growers and producers need a solution that delivers the same performance without the environmental toll, and Teamoss is already proving itself. As part of a pilot test conducted by Suntory Flowers using flower and vegetable seedlings under identical conditions, seedlings grown with Teamoss showed growth comparable to, or exceeding, those grown using conventional peat moss.
