Upcycled Brewer Grain Malts

Terra Bioindustries' Upcycled Malt is Approved by Health Canada

Toronto-based company Terra Bioindustries has reached a regulatory milestone after receiving a non-novel determination from Health Canada for its proprietary ingredient, Terra Malt, formally recognizing it as an approved food ingredient. The decision clears the way for broader commercial adoption and reinforces the company’s position in the growing upcycled-ingredient market.

Terra Malt is a malted barley extract produced from repurposed brewers’ spent grains, transforming a major byproduct of beer production into a value-added food ingredient. During pre-commercial testing, the ingredient demonstrated versatility as a natural flavour and colour enhancer across a range of applications, including beverages, baked goods, savoury sauces, and non-alcoholic beer. With regulatory clarity now in place, Terra Bioindustries is positioned to scale Terra Malt’s use among food and beverage manufacturers seeking sustainable ingredients.
