Carbon Cell Has Developed a Proprietary Eco Material
Kalin Ned — November 13, 2025References: carboncell.co
Carbon Cell is utilizing biochar as a foundational component for a proprietary material designed as a substitute for conventional plastic foams.
The biochar that Carbon Cell uses for its product is produced through the thermal decomposition of agricultural residues in an oxygen-limited environment, a process that stabilizes the carbon within the biomass. The resulting expandable foam is characterized as being strong, thermally insulating, and lightweight. The biochar-based foam is also compostable at the end of its functional life.
Carbon Cell emphasizes that its product is engineered to match the performance of established materials like expanded polystyrene while offering a carbon-negative profile. This means that the innovation sequesters more carbon than is emitted during its production.
