Conscious Insulation Foams

Avantium Teams Up with PLIXXENT for Eco-Friendly Insulation Foams

Insulation foams made from renewable materials are the focus of a new partnership between Avantium N.V. and PLIXXENT. Avantium, known for developing plant-based chemicals, has signed a five-year agreement to supply PLIXXENT with FDCA—a fully bio-based material produced at Avantium’s FDCA Flagship Plant. PLIXXENT, a major manufacturer of polyurethane systems, will use this material to create more sustainable insulation foams.

Additionally, "FDCA (2,5-furandicarboxylic acid) is a promising alternative to fossil-based chemicals used in traditional foam production; when used in insulation, FDCA-based foams offer key environmental benefits while maintaining strong performance in thermal insulation, flame resistance, and durability."

This collaboration supports the growing demand for eco-friendly building materials. The new insulation foams are designed to reduce environmental impact while meeting high technical standards, helping the construction industry move toward more sustainable solutions.
