Tata Power’s Anokha Dhaaga Smart Circularity programme is a micro-entrepreneurship initiative that converts single-use plastic waste into recycled RPET fabric products. The programme began with a city-wide collection drive at Tata Power’s Trombay plant, residential colonies, and Tata Group offices in Mumbai, in partnership with circular-economy social enterprise ReCircle and its network of Safai Saathis. Collected plastics—and donated denim—are processed into high-quality RPET fabric, which is then hand-crafted by women entrepreneurs across six centres into items such as T-shirts, tote bags, and haversacks, showcasing a closed-loop reuse model designed to minimize landfill contributions.

Since its launch in early June 2025, Anokha Dhaaga has transformed over 5,000 kg of plastic waste into sustainable goods and generated more than INR 20 lakh in fair-trade earnings for participating women. Launched in alignment with World Environment Day 2025’s “End Plastic Pollution” theme and nested within Tata Group’s Project Aalingana, the programme advances Tata Power’s #SustainableisAttainable vision by integrating environmental stewardship with community empowerment. Through its circular-economy framework, the initiative delivers scalable resource recovery, reduces reliance on virgin materials, and fosters local economic development via skill training and market access.
