The Babybel paper packaging has been announced by the Bel Group as part of a global packaging shift that will see the brand's signature cheese shifting towards a recyclable, paper-made alternative. The packaging update will affect all Babybel products in 50 countries, consists of responsibly sourced paper and will be fully rolled out by 2027. The packaging update applies to the outer wrapper with the red wax shell remaining unchanged to maintain the product's quality and taste.

Director of RID at the Bel Group Delphine Chatelin spoke on the Babybel paper packaging saying, "Transitioning Babybel to paper packaging is a true technical and industrial challenge. It is not simply about replacing one material with another; it requires rethinking the entire protection system to ensure product quality and safety from production to consumption. Our objective is to offer consumers the same iconic and enjoyable experience while meeting their expectations for sustainability and convenience, with packaging that is environmentally responsible and perfectly adapted to the product’s lifecycle.”
