Berlin Rewards Sustainable Tourists with Immersive City Activities
Kanesa D — May 15, 2026Berlin has launched BerlinPay, a pilot program that rewards visitors for participating in environmentally focused activities such as watering trees, collecting litter, cycling, and helping clean waterfront areas across the city. Running from May 14 to June 14, the program is inspired by the success of Copenhagen’s CopenPay model, which was introduced in 2024 and is centred on promoting sustainability around Berlin’s waterways.
More than 40 local businesses and organizations are participating by offering incentives, including museum admission, complimentary drinks, guided tours, and recreational experiences. Vendors like Hosek Contemporary are providing free concert access to visitors arriving via low-emission transportation, while others, such as Humboldt Forum, are offering guided tours and complimentary merchandise tied to its On Water exhibition.
