Breakthrough Properties Finalizes One Helix in Amsterdam
Kalin Ned — November 9, 2025Breakthrough Properties has finalized the construction of a new, purpose-built research facility named One Helix. Located on the grounds of the Amsterdam University Medical Center, the five-story structure was fully pre-leased to the pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca prior to the commencement of its development.
The architectural design of the new purpose-built research facility was executed by UNStudio, which placed a significant emphasis on achieving a high level of environmental sustainability. This focus is evident in the building's top-tier BREEAM certification for both the building shell and its interior configuration. The facility integrates several advanced ecological technologies, as well. They include a geothermal system for temperature regulation, a highly efficient building envelope featuring triple-glazed windows, and rooftop solar panels. Further contributing to the sustainable profile of this development are landscaped terraces, green roofs that incorporate native flora, and provisions for electric vehicles and bicycles.
