Biodegradable Barrier Papers
Cortec Has Introduced the EcoBio Barrier Paper Product
Kanesa D — January 1, 2026Cortec has expanded its sustainable packaging portfolio with the launch of EcoBio Barrier Paper, a new material designed to provide short-term protection without relying on plastic. Engineered for recyclability and end-of-life simplicity, the paper is repulpable, biodegradable, and compatible with standard paper recycling streams.
EcoBio Barrier Paper starts with a base of 100 percent recycled paper and is finished with a biobased, biodegradable barrier coating. Despite its clean composition, the material provides effective resistance to moisture and grease, offering protection traditionally associated with plastic or foil laminates.
The barrier layer helps regulate moisture movement in and out of packaging, limits oil and grease migration, and supports structural integrity in humid or fluctuating conditions. Its versatility allows it to be used to wrap products in transit, line cardboard boxes or wooden crates, and shield paper packaging from oils or moisture released by metal components.
For applications requiring additional strength, EcoBio Barrier Paper is also available in linerboard form, extending its use to more demanding packaging needs.
