Trane Technologies and Amazon Web Services have released findings from a collaborative project that applied artificial intelligence to manage HVAC systems within a subset of Amazon's grocery fulfillment centers. The entities report energy consumption reductions that surpassed initial projections.

Trane Technologies and Amazon Web Services utilized technology from BrainBox AI, a company acquired by Trane, which autonomously adjusts heating and cooling operations based on real-time data. Following positive outcomes at three initial grocery fulfillment centers, the partners plan to expand the system to dozens of additional facilities and intend to test the application in physical grocery stores in the future.

This effort is framed as supporting Amazon's broader environmental objectives, including a net-zero carbon goal, while also aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
