OpenAI Partnered with Oracle and Vantage on Green AI Program

OpenAI, Oracle, and Vantage Data Centers announced a joint initiative to develop a large hyperscale data centre campus in Port Washington, Wisconsin, as part of the Stargate expansion, with an investment exceeding US$15 billion and plans to deliver nearly one gigawatt of AI capacity by 2028. The project commits to an integrated green‑energy strategy that combines on‑site and regional renewable generation, namely solar, wind, and battery storage, and allocation of 70% of generated renewable capacity to the campus and matching purchases to achieve 100% zero‑emission powered operations, supported by a co‑development agreement with local utility We Energies.

The Lighthouse campus design emphasises resource efficiency and environmental stewardship through closed‑loop liquid cooling to reduce water use, water‑positive restoration projects, biodiversity measures across the site, and pursuit of LEED certification, while also projecting substantial local economic impacts including thousands of construction jobs and over 1,000 permanent positions. Project statements highlight coordination between infrastructure, energy providers, and local authorities to expand clean energy capacity, stabilise rates for other consumers, and integrate sustainability measures with regional development objectives.
