Sustainable Multi-Sensory Stays

Hotel Terrestre is 100% Solar Powered and Off-Grid
Debra John — June 14, 2025Hotel Terrestre, part of Grupo Habita’s design-focused hotel collection, offers a fully off-grid hospitality experience powered entirely by solar energy. Nestled between the Pacific coastline and the Sierra Madre mountains in Puerto Escondido, the property invites guests to disconnect from digital life and attune to the natural rhythms of light, space, and environment.
Designed by architect Alberto Kalach and Taller de Arquitectura X, the hotel is constructed using locally sourced materials and relies on passive cooling techniques, such as strategic ventilation and thermal mass, instead of mechanical air conditioning. This approach reflects a commitment to low-impact architecture and sensory immersion.
The retreat includes fourteen earth-toned villas, an open-air restaurant, a communal circular pool for wellness rituals, a dedicated lap pool, and a sculptural hexagonal spa featuring a cold plunge, steam room, and indoor-outdoor showers. Ultimately, Hotel Terrestre offers a refined blend of ecological mindfulness and architectural restraint.
