Eco-Friendly Airline Meal Containers
Korean Air Now Offers Sustainable Containers for Passengers
Kanesa D — November 26, 2025Starting December 2025, Korean Air will begin phasing in new entrée containers made from pulp sourced from straw, sugarcane, bamboo, and other non-wood fibers. The move supports the airline’s goal of cutting plastic use and shrinking its carbon footprint in line with global sustainability expectations. Following an initial launch on select routes, the containers are set to roll out across the whole network by late 2026, beginning with economy-class meals featuring both Korean and Western options.
Notably, the materials for the new containers require no tree harvesting and offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic or paper packaging. They’re also sturdy and heat-resistant, holding their shape during extended warming. Korean Air estimates that the switch will reduce carbon emissions associated with in-flight meal packaging by roughly 60 percent.
