Lidl Canarias Announces New Recycled Bags Program

Lidl Canarias has introduced an innovative circular recycling program that transforms plastic waste from its own supermarkets into a new range of recycled rubbish bags. The company has already recycled more than 1,500 tonnes of plastic, producing 16 million rubbish bags under its Purio brand. The line includes six bag types, offering consumers a practical alternative for everyday waste.

The process begins with the collection, sorting, and recycling of plastic materials generated within Lidl stores—mainly product packaging and logistics waste. These recovered plastics are then reprocessed to create new rubbish bags containing 20% to 50% recycled content, available in various sizes ranging from 10 to 100 liters.

This project aligns with Lidl’s REset Resources strategy, a global sustainability roadmap that aims to cut plastic usage by 30% and make 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025.
