Livium Received Funding to Expand its Waste Recycling Operations
Colin Smith — September 19, 2025Livium Ltd (ASX: LIT) has signed a binding term sheet with Iondrive Limited (ASX: ION) to expand its clean energy waste recycling capabilities. Iondrive, through its subsidiary Iondrive AU Pty Ltd, is developing a metal extraction process based on Deep Eutectic Solvent technology (DES). Under the agreement, Livium will evaluate and integrate Iondrive’s DES process to recover critical metals from end-of-life batteries and production scrap, positioning the company to address both resource security and environmental objectives through enhanced recycling operations.
The collaboration outlines due diligence and pilot-scale trials at Livium’s Australian facilities, with a view toward full commercial deployment pending successful testing. Iondrive’s DES method operates at lower temperatures and uses fewer harsh chemicals compared with conventional hydrometallurgical approaches, potentially yielding high-purity lithium, cobalt and nickel products with reduced waste streams. By combining upstream lithium exploration with downstream recycling, Livium aims to establish an integrated clean-energy metals supply chain that meets growing demand for sustainable battery materials.
