Pirelli's New Tires for the W1 Boast Over 50% Sustainability
Colin Smith — February 24, 2026Pirelli developed a bespoke set of 'P Zero' tyres for the McLaren W1 that incorporate more than 50 percent sustainable materials by weight, according to the announcement. The 'P Zero' tyres were engineered to meet McLaren’s performance and safety specifications for a high performance road car while reducing reliance on conventional fossil based inputs. Pirelli states the design process balanced material substitution with requirements for grip, wear resistance, and thermal stability to preserve driving dynamics and durability.
The project is presented as part of Pirelli’s broader sustainability agenda to increase the share of renewable, recycled, and bio based components in its product range. The collaboration with McLaren is described as a demonstration of how premium automotive suppliers can integrate higher proportions of sustainable feedstocks without compromising technical performance, and it is positioned to inform future development of tyres for high performance and luxury vehicles.
