remedi Recycles Regulated Medical Waste in Texas
Debra John — October 31, 2025remedi, a fully permitted regulated medical waste (RMW) processor, has become the first company in Texas authorized to recycle regulated medical waste, representing a significant advancement in sustainable healthcare waste management in the United States.
Traditionally, medical waste processors have relied primarily on steam-based autoclave systems to sterilize materials before disposing of them in landfills. In contrast, remedi has introduced next-generation processing technologies that extend beyond sterilization to enable the safe recovery and recycling of eligible medical plastics and other materials. This approach not only minimizes landfill waste but also contributes to lower greenhouse gas emissions within the healthcare sector.
According to remedi, "a typical 500-bed hospital partnering with the company can divert over 150,000 pounds of medical waste annually, resulting in an estimated reduction of 200 metric tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions compared with conventional incineration-based disposal methods."
