Pet Packaging Recycling Initiatives

Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N' Wash have announced the results of the second year of a collaborative recycling program operated in conjunction with TerraCycle, a specialist in processing hard-to-recycle materials. The initiative has successfully diverted over one hundred thousand pounds of pet food, treats, and litter packaging from disposal in landfills.

This two-year effort has cumulatively processed more than 3.2 million individual units of packaging. The operational model of the TerraCycle program is based on consumers bringing used packaging from any brand to designated collection bins inside the participating retail stores. The collected materials are then handled by TerraCycle, which transforms them into raw components for manufacturing new goods. In the context of the industry Pet Supplies Plus and Wag N' Wash are part of, this is extremely important as the vast majority of conventional pet product packaging is not recyclable through municipal services.
