Multitude of Sins' Requiem for Ruins Alters Salvaged Materials into a Story

The Requiem for Ruins lab by Multitude of Sins is conceived as a spatial memoir that transforms discarded materials into layered narratives. Using fragments of wood, glass, metal, and concrete, the installation assembles sculptural forms that retain visible marks of wear, from cracks and nail holes to shifts in color and surface texture. These imperfections are preserved as evidence of history rather than erased through finishing.

As visitors move through the space, light and shadow animate the overlapping structures, creating shifting impressions that highlight the materials’ past lives. The design reframes waste as a vessel of memory, proving that even debris can communicate cultural and emotional depth. By positioning salvaged matter as central to storytelling, Requiem for Ruins offers a meditation on impermanence, resilience, and the enduring presence of history within contemporary design practice.
