Sandals Resorts Launches a Traveller Program for Coral Restoration
Kanesa D — June 11, 2025Sandals Resorts is turning travel into a force for ocean conservation with a dynamic coral restoration initiative spanning five Caribbean islands. This immersive program invites guests to step into the role of "coral gardeners," actively participating in marine preservation efforts while enjoying their vacation.
In collaboration with the Sandals Foundation and regional partners, over 37,000 coral fragments have already been transplanted through hands-on, PADI-certified dive experiences. Guests learn to cultivate and plant coral, directly supporting reef health and biodiversity. In The Bahamas, a new Reef Rescue Network site—run with the Perry Institute for Marine Science—offers a specialty diver course focused on nurturing elkhorn and staghorn coral.
In Curaçao, the resort teams up with BRANCH Coral Foundation to deploy coral trees holding 80 staghorn fragments each, aiming to outplant 300 fragments every six months. Meanwhile, efforts in Grenada and Jamaica prioritize local engagement, providing training and equipment to communities and turning former fishermen into conservation leaders.
