Upcycled Table Tennis Balls
Recum Relies on Recycled Plastics and AI for Its Product Development
Kalin Ned — January 4, 2026The South Korean company Recum is introducing a line of table tennis balls designed for competitive play. This range is noteworthy because it utilizes a significant proportion of recycled plastics for the construction while adhering to the stringent performance standards set by the sport's global governing body — the International Table Tennis Federation. For its products, the brand uses Post-Consumer Recycled ABS, which consists of "approximately 30–50% recycled content."
Furthermore, the development of Recum's professional-grade table tennis balls is supported by a heavily automated and AI-integrated manufacturing process that aims at ensuring exceptional consistency in the product's physical properties, such as its roundness, wall thickness, and bounce behavior. It is said that "more than 90% of Recum’s manufacturing processes operate using robot-based automated systems."
