Renewable Energy Guidebooks

The UNFCCC Launched a Renewable Technology Resource
Georgia Wray Norsten — July 17, 2025The UNFCCC launched a new guidebook on renewable energy technologies during the June UN Climate Meetings in Bonn, providing developing countries with practical resources to advance climate action through clean energy deployment. Developed collaboratively by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, this comprehensive resource supports countries in identifying, prioritizing, and implementing renewable energy technologies aligned with their climate and development plans.
The guidebook addresses the energy sector's role as the largest source of global greenhouse gas emissions while strengthening the Technology Needs Assessment process that has supported technology development and transfer under international climate agreements. This initiative comes at a critical time when countries increasingly demand practical tools to accelerate renewable energy deployment and meet Paris Agreement goals. The resource could significantly enhance developing nations' capacity to transition to clean energy systems while supporting their sustainable development objectives, potentially accelerating global renewable energy adoption and helping bridge the implementation gap between climate commitments and actual deployment of clean technologies.
