Wimbledon Donates Tennis Balls to Protect and House Local Harvest Mice
Kanesa D — July 23, 2025British conservation consortium The Wildlife Trusts is launching a new program that crafts makeshift nests for endangered mice that require safe places to live. Harvest mice, increasingly endangered in Britain due to pest control initiatives and predators, are often at risk as a result of human developments that have gotten rid of their habitats.
As a part of this effort, the organization is accepting donations from Wimbledon, the iconic tennis stadium, and using them to create habitats for the mice. The balls are attached to polls, which the mice can climb, and provide sturdy sheltr for them while protecting from danger.
Notably, Wimbledon goes through approximately 55,000 tennis balls per competition, so this effort will provide adequate housing for the harvest mice in the regon.
