Carbon-Neutral East African Hotels

Ycona Luxury Resort Supports Eco-Conscious Initiatives

cona Luxury Resort is setting a new benchmark for sustainable tourism in East Africa, with an ambitious goal to become the region’s first fully carbon-neutral hotel by 2027. Thoughtfully located within a biodiverse botanical enclave in Zanzibar, the resort has intentionally capped development at 40 villas to preserve the ecological balance of its natural surroundings.

To reduce its carbon footprint, Ycona integrates renewable energy and climate-conscious systems, including partial solar power and innovative cooling technologies that minimize reliance on conventional emissions-heavy infrastructure. Complementing these efforts, the resort’s restaurant adopts a farm-to-table approach by sourcing ingredients directly from its on-site garden, thereby lowering food transport emissions and strengthening local food systems.

Importantly, Ycona’s commitment extends beyond environmental practices. A minimum of 5% of every direct booking is allocated to the Ycona SDG Fund, which supports "education, sustainable agriculture, and gender equality initiatives." Through this comprehensive model, Ycona exemplifies how luxury hospitality can foster both ecological and social resilience.
