Researchers at Jeonbuk National University, led by Dr. Jester Lih Jie Ling, published a comprehensive review in the journal Renewable Energy to highlight recent innovations in chemical looping fluidized bed reactors. This technology is designed to convert fossil fuels into energy and chemical production while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The study examined advancements in reactor design and the performance of various oxygen carrier materials — such as perovskite and metal-based particles — which undergo cyclic oxidation and reduction to facilitate processes like reforming, gasification, and hydrogen production without releasing CO₂ into the atmosphere. The review from Jeonbuk National University researcher emphasized the importance of oxygen carrier characteristics, including reactivity, durability, and resistance to degradation, as well as the need for precise control of fluidization regimes and particle modeling to optimize yield and purity of synthesized chemicals.
