Plasma-Based Carbon Dioxide Conversions

The Blueplasma Consortium Ran a R&D Project in Antwerp

The Blueplasma Consortium is a collaborative effort involving several industrial and research organizations — including D-CRBN, ENGIE, and VITO. It initiated a pilot program in Antwerp, Belgium, with the focus on transforming carbon dioxide into an alternative resource.

The project's core technology utilizes a plasma-based process to chemically convert captured CO₂ emissions into carbon monoxide directly at the source. This resulting carbon monoxide is intended for use as a foundational material in metallurgy and chemical manufacturing.

The development of this research and demonstration infrastructure is part of the Blueplasma Consortium's broader initiative of fostering practical applications that could support economic activity and a circular economic model in the region. The Research & Development pilot project in Belgium was developed within the framework of the ICON project.
